Preseason Packer Notes Week #3-4 (Titans)

Well, we have what we have here in Packer-land. The only questions that remain, while compelling, are not likely to remain unanswered for long.

For starters… just when will someone like Chris Simms be added to the roster due to the lack of development by Brian Brohm and the lack of trust of Matt Flynn. Neither rookie has inspired a heap of confidence, though Flynn at least seems to be aware of himself on the field, whereas Brohm appears as lost as the proverbial kittens’ mittens.

Will the O-line gel? It seems that Junius Coston and Colledge are still going to be on the team, but our rookie long-snapper may have been injured. How important is a long-snapper? Don’t kid yourself, constant reader; a long-snapper is the difference between good and terrible special teams.

Will the D-line become healthy? Let’s face it…it seems that Justin Harrell is going to ride more pine, and get paid for sitting around. Were it not for Daniel Muir, Jenkins, Montgomery, Cole, etc. we would be in trouble. Look for KGB to be on the list of cut players this time too. He seems to be missing agility and power, carries a large salary, and Kampman needs help on the other side.

The LB-corps is the best in the NFC, bar none. Barnett, Hawk, Poppinga, Chillar, Bishop and White will make the team, and I could see Abdul Hodge making it too. All have been playing quite well, especially Bishop.

At CB, we now know that Tramone Williams is going to be the nickel back/#3 CB, with Will Blackmon in the dime with Jarret Bush. Woodson and Harris are the starters.

At TE, look for the Pack to again look for a veteran who has been cut. Humphries will not make the team, and we will need more than Donald Lee and the untested rookie Jermichael Finley who blocks about as well as my 8 year old mutt.

At RB, it is Ryan Grant (no touches during preseason…I fear him getting hurt because of it), with Brandon Jackson, Noah Herron and either Vernand Morency OR (and I kid you not with this name) Kregg LUMPKIN…that’s right…Lumpkin. My guess is that Morency gets the nod, and Lumpkin (that’s right…Lumpkin) winds up on the practice squad/another team.

At WR, it is Jennings #1, Driver #2. With Jones currently banged up, look for Ruvell Martin and Jordy Nelson to share #3 & #4 in certain situations. Neither is worth drafting at this point, but Driver and Jennings are. Jennings may have a breakout year.

On Special teams Ryan and Crosby are set and solid. Blackmon, Nelson, and Lee are your return specialists.

I’ll send you a pre-game analysis prior to the end of next week…Packers V Vikes!
