August Packer Report: Week 1: Report 1
The Packers have ended an era. Brett Favre, in a stunning turn of events, has been traded to the New York JETS, for a conditional 4th round pick that is likely to become at least a 2nd round pick.
While there has been enough written about it, and I am terribly sick of the whole affair, let me simply say that herein is a lesson for all of us. Lines of communication are important to keep open and true. The absence of such leads to breakdowns and assumptions, which lead to further horrors. I am sad to see him go, but I wish him success AND hope that Rodgers can overcome the pressure associated with the obvious "doubling-down" on Rodgers by Packer brass.
Camp Notes:
Having attended a few practices over the last couple of days, let me share some information:
- Aaron Rodgers does look good. He is making good reads, good decisions, and seems to be having fun out there. Today, Rodgers was 10 of 15 with 2 TDs. He was 6 of 8 on the 2-min. drive...WR Greg Jennings made a nifty 1-handed catch for a TD to end practice. As far as who will be the primary backup, I am thinking the team will be looking for someone other than rookies Brohm or Flynn (who is performing better than Brohm thus far). I say this because it seems that the Pack was looking to include Brian Griese as part of a Tampa bay trade for Brett. This indicates that the team has interest in adding a vet.
- Jordy Nelson is going to make a strong play for the #3 job. He catches everything.
- Defensively, the CB battle is heating up:
- Tramon Williams has come back from his injury and showed just how much better he is than the rest of the guys at nickel back. He has been better than:
- Jarrett Bush was decent.
- Patrick Lee -- has done a nice job so far
- Will Blackmon has been iffy.
- At S Charlie Peprah has been all over the field, and Aaron Rouse has been good as well. Nick Collins might be trade bait.
That’s all for now! More later!
