Not much to report before the start of training camp.

The much ballyhooed comeback of local boy made good, C LaCharles Bentley fizzled in a matter of hours after he reported to camp. Bentley and the front office clashed on the issue of his rehabilitation and then LaCharles was reportedly unhappy about the $16 million he collected over the last two years without every playing a single snap for the team. The team, understandably, wanted some sort of return on their investment and was displeased that Bentley was not rehabbing with the team and then when he did report the first time he failed his conditioning test. His forty time was extremely sub-par, reportedly in the 7.0 flat range which is simply unacceptable.

But don’t fret, the absence of Bentley shouldn’t be felt or impact the Browns’ offensive line. If he would have made a comeback it would have only boosted the line. The only way he could adversely impact the Browns is if someone bites on his asking price and he actually does come back healthy. Their were rumors of a possible Pittsburgh interest, ugh, stay tuned. As it stands right now the free agent addition of G Rex Hadnot may pay dividends as G/OT Ryan Tucker suffered an injury and will be out of action for a few weeks so Hadnot is getting valuable playing time and the line shouldn’t have any issues.

The other top offensive free agent acquisition, WR Donte’ Stallworth, looks to be another well timed addition by Browns GM Phil Savage as WR Joe Jurevicious may not be on the field for, camp, preseason, and now rumors of not being healthy for the opener are being raised due to complications with a staph infection after off-season surgery. Stallworth was already slated to replace Jurevicious as the #2 wide receiver but it was hoped that ‘Vicious’ would play a role on third downs where he was extremely valuable. Fingers crossed that he’s able to return healthy and contribute in what he declared was his last season.

The only other story to report on is a non-story in the non-quarterback competition between QB Derek Anderson and QB Brady Quinn. Although some DA haters and/or Quinn-ND lovers insist on trying to fabricate a quarterback controversy, none exist and won’t unless DA falters. Reports are that both quarterbacks have had some troubles but the strengths/weakness’ by both are well known and OC Rob Chudzinski knew going into the off-season that DA would be his starter so he has tailored the offense to Anderson’s strengths and has been working to shore up weakness’ in DA’s game. Meanwhile Quinn has been fantastic in working hard and not causing a controversy but you can bet that the anti-DA/pro-Quinn camp will be vocal in trying to tear down DA for any mistake he makes this year. Lets hope that DA is able to put a muzzle on them just as he did last year. A quarterback controversy is the last thing that the team needs on the brink of what should be a fantastic season.

Aspettate fino alla prossima volta... Till next time, Ciao!
