Little Known Historical Facts from the Humble Beginnings of the

Relic 1

The inaugural season of the Rocket City Football League was 1988. There were only 4 teams in the beginning... Mike's Dykes (yours truly), Dan's Squareheads, Bob's Swabs, and Sam's Nads. The first RCFL draft began with Dan's Squareheads selecting Randall Cunningham of the Philadelphia Eagles. As for the Dykes, I selected Herschel Walker, then of the Dallas Cowboys, as my first round draft choice. It's interesting to note that Randall did indeed live up to his top billing by scoring a league high 163 points for the Squareheads.

Relic 2

The starters on a RCFL team in 1988 consisted of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 PK, 2 Defensive Linemen (DLs), 2 Linebackers (LBs), and 2 Defensive Backs (DBs). Each owner also chose a NFL head coach used exclusively to break ties (lasted until 1990 when ties were recorded as ties during the regular season). A 2 point home field advantage was implemented for half of each team's games during the season (lasted until 1992). The individual defensive players became just defensive teams in 1992. In case you were wondering, in 1988, the defensive point leaders were Tim Krumrie, Defensive Lineman of Cincinnati with 63 points; Dino Hackett, Linebacker of Kansas City with 53 points; and Alvin Walton, Defensive Back of Washington with 57 points. Defense seemed to play a minor role though with none of these players on the roster of my 1988 RCFL Champion Dykes.
