-- Ahmad Brooks Benches Himself --
Sun Nov 16, 2014 --from FFMastermind.com

Fox Sports reports San Francisco 49ers LB Ahmad Brooks wasn't benched on Sunday. Rather, he benched himself. A source said that Brooks was upset with the coaches' decision to take reps away from him and give them to LB Aldon Smith and LB Aaron Lynch during the team's 16-10 victory over the New York Giants. The source said Brooks told the coaches and his teammates he believed he should be playing every snap and didn't care to be part of a rotation, so he pulled himself from the game. Multiple media reports from MetLife Stadium stated Brooks wasn't standing on the sideline in an effort to get back in the game but was rather sitting on the bench, removing his cleats and getting the tape cut off his ankles. After the game, 49ers HC Jim Harbaugh said he and Brooks are "working through something" and added: "We need Ahmad Brooks to win a championship. I feel that wholeheartedly and have felt that way." Brooks declined to address the situation in depth with reporters, though he agreed with the assessment he and Harbaugh are "working through something."

-- Source: NaVorro Bowman Might Not Play in 2014 --
Fri Nov 14, 2014 --from FFMastermind.com

NBC Sports reports the San Francisco 49ers have until Tuesday to decide whether to activate LB NaVorro Bowman (knee - PUP) from the physically unable to perform list. But it might be a moot point. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a source says there’s a “real possibility” Bowman won’t play again this year after blowing out his knee last season. There were reports that Bowman still had pain in the knee, but HC Jim Harbaugh said his recent MRI was “fine.” Those two statements aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. The 49ers can still activate him from reserve/PUP Tuesday and have a three-week window to let him begin practicing. It’s hard to imagine they’ll make a season-ending move unless it’s obvious Bowman has no chance, since they have extra time to allow him to heal.

While there is still no timetable for Bowman’s return, the source said, Tuesday is the latest the 49ers could declare Bowman available to practice and still have him available to play this season. HC Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday the organization wanted Bowman to get an MRI before any decision was made on a possible return to practice “to see where that’s at first.”

-- Patrick Willis Injury Update --
Wed Nov 12, 2014 --from FFMastermind.com

NBC Sports reports San Francisco 49ers LB Patrick Willis’s (toe - IR) season came to an end on Tuesday when the team placed him on injured reserve because of a toe injury that will require surgery. Willis missed the last three games because of the injury, but revealed Tuesday that the injury was a bothersome issue long before he went down against the Rams in Week Six. “It’s been something that I’ve been dealing with for a while now,” Willis said, via CSNBayArea.com. “I could argue and say, ‘Should I have done it earlier before it got as bad as it did, before I hurt it worse than I did in the Rams game?’ I could, but I’m not going to, because I felt like at the time, I’ve always been a fighter and always been a competitor, so I’m going to fight and I’m go until I can’t go anymore. When I hurt it in the Rams game, it made me nervous then because I knew what I had already been feeling all these years.” Willis said that he wants to play “five or six more great years” and believes having surgery now will help make that a reality. He’s signed through the 2016 season, so the 49ers surely hope that there are at least two more great ones in the tank after the operation.

It has been a pleasure to have Marcus as a member of our team and our community and we are confident that he will be very successful in whichever path he chooses to take in life. We look forward to supporting Marcus and wish him nothing but the best." "After prayer and careful consideration, I have decided it’s time to end my professional football career,” said Lattimore. “I have given my heart and soul to the game that I love, and it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter of my life and help others. I have given every ounce of my energy toward making a full recovery from my knee injury, and I have made a lot of progress. Unfortunately, getting my knee fully back to the level the NFL demands has proven to be insurmountable. I am grateful for the entire 49ers organization. Their decision to draft me was the realization of a lifelong dream to be an NFL player, and I cannot thank them enough for believing in me and for doing everything in their power to assist in my recovery. I will always be a 49er!

"As you know, it's been a long road," Lattimore said, via CSN Bay Area. The fourth-round pick was sidelined for all of last season and for the first three months of the 2014 season. The team fully expected a lengthy rehab process when they chose him, but the Niners hoped he could come back and resemble the dynamic running back he was at South Carolina. Lattimore is down five pounds from his days as a Gamecock and says he feels quicker than ever. He'll remain at the team's facility in Santa Clara throughout the bye week to get ready for his debut

ESPN reports the San Francisco 49ers could get help sooner than expected following this week's bye because outside LB Aldon Smith's nine-game suspension could be reduced for good behavior, league sources confirmed Monday. Smith was suspended before the season by the NFL under terms of the league's personal conduct and substance abuse policies. His nine-game suspension is set to end Nov. 10 after the 49ers play the Saints. However, sources confirmed an NBC Sports report that Smith's suspension could be reduced by one or two games, which makes it possible he could be available to play in a Week 9 game against the Rams or the Week 10 game against the Saints. He must maintain his good behavior for commissioner Roger Goodell to reduce the penalty. Under terms of his suspension, the league has allowed Smith to be in the team's facility for meetings and conditioning, although he has not been allowed to practice with the team.

-- Aldon Smith Likely to Play Before NaVorro Bowman --
Tue Oct 7, 2014 --from FFMastermind.com

CSNBayArea.com reports 49ers LB NaVorro Bowman (knee) is eligible to return to the 49ers' practice field next week, but it appears to be a near-certainty that LB Aldon Smith will be beat him back into the lineup. Smith is serving a nine-game suspension for violations of the NFL’s policies on substance abuse and personal conduct. He is eligible to begin practicing on Nov. 10. He is on pace to make his season debut Nov. 16 at the New York Giants. And Smith expects to be able to step in immediately, according to 49ers DC Vic Fangio. “He told me last week, I asked him how’s he’s doing with his conditioning and fitness,, he says, ‘I’m the most fit guy in this building’ he told me,” Fangio said Tuesday morning on the "Murph and Mac Show" on KNBR. “He seems to be doing well along those lines. We’re looking forward to his return down the line.” Bowman continues to rehab the severe knee injury he sustained in the NFC Championship game. He is on the reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list and is not eligible for the first six weeks of the season. But Bowman will require several additional weeks to be ready to practice and get ready for game action, Fangio said. “NaVorro’s doing well in his rehab,” Fangio said. “He still has to be out two more games, at least, then he’ll be out several after that. But he’s doing well. He’s had no roadblocks in his rehab. Everything’s gone smooth. He’s ahead of where he should be and we’re looking forward to his return at some point. I think at some point he’ll eventually play (this season). But right now it’s still later than sooner. . . He’s going to need a couple weeks of practice to get his legs under him and feel comfortable playing on his leg.”

The 49ers have seen the errors of their ways, though, and even normally tight-lipped HC Jim Harbaugh has suggested Gore will go back to being his bell cow running back this week. After all, the Niners have to grind out the clock to keep Philadelphia's high-octane offense off the field. Gore should rebound from last week.
