IMPORTANT NFL DATES
January
6-7, 2007: NFL Playoffs – Wildcard Round.
January 13-14, 2007: NFL Playoffs – Divisional Round (Round
2).
January 14, 2007: Hula Bowl: Honolulu, Hawaii. College all-star
game.
January 15, 2007: Deadline for underclassmen to petition the NFL
for early entry into the draft. Current guidelines state only
players who graduated from high school at least three seasons
ago may petition the NFL to enter the draft before they have exhausted
their college eligibility. Any underclassman who has petitioned
the NFL may change his mind before January 19th, so long as he
has not signed with an agent or received benefits.
January 20, 2007: East-West Shrine Game: Houston, Texas. College
all-star game.
January 21, 2007: NFL Playoffs – AFC and NFC Championship
Games.
January 27, 2007: Senior Bowl: Mobile, Alabama. The most important
college all-star game. The week of practices leading up to the
game is almost like a mini-combine for coaches and scouts.
February 4, 2007: Super Bowl XLI: Miami, Florida.
February 8, 2007: First day NFL teams can designate Franchise
and/or Transition players.
February 10, 2007: AFC-NFC Pro Bowl: Honolulu, Hawaii.
February 12, 2007: NFL waiver system begins. Players with at least
four previous pension-credited seasons whom NFL teams desire to
terminate are not subject to the waiver system until after the
trading deadline in October.
February 21-27, 2007: NFL Scouting Combine- Indianapolis. College
prospects are invited to attend the main NFL scouting combine
in Indianapolis, Indiana. Prospects are weighed, measured, timed,
interviewed, and put through a series of tests, which include
the bench press, broad jump, vertical jump, and various agility
tests. Prospects also undergo psychological and intelligence testing.
February 22, 2007: Deadline for clubs to designate Franchise and/or
Transition players.
February 28-April 20, 2007: NFL Pro Days held on college campuses
across the country.
March 1, 2007: Expiration date of all player contracts due to
expire in 2007.
March 1, 2007: Deadline for NFL teams to make qualifying offers
to restricted and exclusive-rights free agents.
March 2, 2007: NFL calendar year begins.
March 2, 2007: All NFL teams must be under the 2007 salary cap
at midnight. Teams may not trade until they are under the cap.
March 2, 2007: Trading period begins for 2007 after expiration
of all 2006 contracts.
March 2, 2007: Veteran Free Agency period begins.
March 19, 2007: NFL teams may begin voluntary off-season workout
programs.
March 25-28, 2007: NFL Annual Meeting: Phoenix, Arizona.
April 20, 2007: Deadline for signing restricted free agents to
offer sheets.
April 27, 2007: Deadline for exercising right of first refusal
on restricted free agents.
April 28-29 2007: 2007 NFL Draft: New York, New York.
June 1, 2007: Deadline for NFL teams to send tender to unsigned
unrestricted and restricted free agents to receive exclusive negotiating
rights for the remainder of the season if the player is not signed
by another NFL team. The NFL and NFLPA must agree to a CBA extension
in order to this deadline to remain in place.
June 15, 2007: Deadline for NFL teams to withdraw original qualifying
offer to restricted free agents and still retain exclusive negotiating
rights by substituting a tender of 110% of the player’s
previous year’s salary.
June 24-27, 2007: NFL Rookie Symposium.
July 22, 2007: Signing period ends (4:00 p.m. ET) for unrestricted
free agents who receive June 1 tender.
Late July 2007: NFL training camps open.
August 5, 2007: NFL Hall of Fame Game: Pittsburgh Steelers vs.
New Orleans Saints
