Fantasy Football Just Sayin' - May 2013

By John Cooney

Packer RB Alex Green may find himself on the outs after struggling through a disappointing 2012 season (slow 2011 injury recovery?) and the Green Bay drafting of RBs Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin. The Jets could really use his all-around services and the Steelers would be a perfect fit for Green. And I’d take Alex Green over the Chargers’ Ryan Mathews seven days a week.

Matt Flynn, Terrelle Pryor, Tyler Wilson, Kyle Pardon… Raiders; and Tim Tebow can’t get a job?

Did Kansas City’s Coach Reid really bring in former Nevada Pistol offense innovator and head coach Chris Ault as a consultant? Wow! Alex Smith may be the surprise of the 2013 season; he fits if Ault’s playbook becomes a heavy influence.

It seems to me the Giants are quite comfortable with a certain wide receiver stepping up should the team:

A- fail to secure Victor Cruz long-term,

B- see Hakeem Nicks once again battle injuries and miss games.

I got my eye on you, Rueben Randle!

The more I listen to new Bills head coach Doug Marrone, the less I am convinced.

I just have the feeling that Ryan Tannehill is the guy that makes the biggest positive jump at QB this season; and I am NOT a Tannehill guy.

The Packers have had a different wide receiver lead the team in TD catches each of the last 4 seasons (James Jones, Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings, Donald Driver). Jennings and Driver are gone; Jones and Nelson already had their turn… Randall Cobb anyone?

Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne, Matt Scott, Jordan Rodgers… Jaguars; no hometown son in sight, however.

Speaking of Jacksonville, if Maurice Jones-Drew blows a wheel again this season, the Jags set themselves up with converted rookie QB Denard Robinson, Justin Forsett, Jordan Todman and De’Leon Eskridge as options. YIKES!

I hope football fans take notice at the NFC West; Niners, Seahawks have an upstart to contend with in St. Louis.

Watched a lot of game cut-ups of Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell. He’s got some game, but I wouldn’t get overly excited regarding his ffb value. Not as physical as I initially perceived and though he gets to his 2 nd gear quickly, he doesn’t seem to have that next gear. Bell is like former Phillies bullpen ace Tug McGraw’s fastball, self-described as “Is that all there is?”

Time for Rams’ QB Sam Bradford to git ‘er dun! There is speed to burn and the offense is set for his particular passing style; quick hitters, check-down to speedy RBs, two talented tight ends and over-the-top deep threats.

Dolphin’s 2 nd season tailback Lamar Miller is oh-so-smooth on tape reading his blocks inside and out. Scouting his game tape is a pleasure… eyes on Fanballers!

Sometimes the best trade a team makes is the one that never happens. Chiefs failed to close the deal with Miami regarding LT Brandon Albert, and still drafted highly touted LT Eric Fisher. Suddenly, Albert is in minicamp, with a good attitude, Fisher is moving his top-shelf LT skills to the right side of the line and the KC front five looks like one of the league’s better blocking units.

I just don’t get Denver’s Brock Osweiler.

Where have you gone Ricky Watters?
